Good news: Herding Donkeys is out in paperback today! Picador did an amazing job with the design. There’s also an new afterword focusing on the 2012 elections and future of the Obama movement.
Here’s the new jacket text:
In 2008, Barack Obama’s groundbreaking presidential campaign seemingly rewrote all the rules in electoral politics and heralded a new progressive era in America. What has become of the thrilling grassroots political movement that defined Obama’s campaign and reshaped the electoral map? Ari Berman’s Herding Donkeys answers and illuminates this vital question, mapping the evolution of modern American politics from Howard Dean to the Tea Party, and painting a vivid picture of the fight for political power in America today.

I just got the paperback version of Herding Donkeys. Thanks for leaving the possibility for Hope open at the end and for giving us Obama folks the last word. In Colorado, to coin a phrase, we are Fired Up and Ready to Go. It looks to me that the development of neighborhood teams in El Paso County is on pace with, if not ahead of, 2008. Over three dozen volunteer events statewide today on a Thursday, about typical for a week day. I think 2012 will test the community organizing model more than ever. It will be a match up between hundreds of millions of conversations with voters and hundreds of millions of dollars spent by Super PACs on ads attacking the President. It’s too early to write the book on how this one will turn out but it should be a great story!
