White House Visit/Obama Post-SOTU

I visited the White House for the first time yesterday, attending a briefing with David Axelrod for a small group of progressive writers and bloggers in the Roosevelt Room. Covered it for The Nation: “At White House, Axelrod Outlines Obama’s Post-SOTU Strategy.”

I also discussed the meeting on MSNBC’s “The Last Word” with Lawrence O’Donnell, alongside Richard Wolffe and Nate Silver. Here’s the clip:

A few impressions of the White House: it’s smaller than you imagine, especially around the Oval Office. Everything is bunched tightly together. The East Room is amazing and opulent and I imagine what people think of when they imagine the place. The courtyard by the Rose Garden is also pretty stunning, especially in the snow. I snapped a picture while walking through (shhh, don’t tell White House security).
